Our Class Rules
Below are our classroom rules. These rules were created with the children and promote a sense of classroom community. We discuss how in order to do our personal best, we must follow the class rules. The class recites the rules every morning.
Rule #1: Listen while the teacher is talking
Rule #2: Follow directions quickly
Rule #3: Keep your hands and your feet to yourself
Rule #4: Raise your hand to speak or stand
Rule #5: Be safe, be kind, be honest
Positive Discipline
Here at Athlos we believe in positive discipline, focusing on the good choices students make in the classroom. Students receive specific positive praise and rewards for following class rules and working hard.
The Five Steps of Discipline
Although we focus most of our energy on positive behaviors, consequences for inappropriate behavior are clearly defined and enforced:
Step 1: Warning
Step 2: Lose 5 minutes of recess
Step 3: Lose 10 minutes of recess
Step 4: Move to an alternate location to complete classwork
Step 5: Send to Principal
Positive Discipline in Our Kinder Class
*Individual Stamp Charts
Each child has their own chart taped to their desk. Those students who follow our 5 class rules (with 1 or no reminders) get a stamp at the end of each day. I also give out extra stamps throughout the day to students who go “above and beyond” (showing kindness to others, being a role model for the rest of the class, etc). Students get to choose a prize from the treasure box when their stamp chart is full.
*Class Incentives
The children in the class work together to spell a word on the board.
They earn a letter each time they receive compliments from other teachers, administrators, or myself. The goal is that come together as a classroom community to achieve class goals such a listening, following directions, etc. When they earn all the letters in the word they receive a special surprise...treasure box, free time, stickers, etc.
